The course provides a comprehensive overview of the techniques, strategies, and market dynamics that shape the reinsurance industry.
It will cover reinsurance techniques including alternative risk transfer, demonstrating how they are used to manage volatility, optimize capital, and address new / emerging risks such as climate change and cyber.
The course aims to equip future insurance professionals with the skills to understand the critical role of reinsurance in risk mitigation and portfolio management within the global insurance industry.
Course contents include:
- Introduction to Reinsurance. Overview of the reinsurance industry: major players & markets Purpose and functions of reinsurance
- Reinsurance Techniques. Traditional reinsurance: proportional, non-proportional, facultative Alternative risk transfer: catastrophe bonds / ILS, captives
- Objectives. Volatility management. Capital management in particular under Solvency II Portfolio management incl. life backbook reinsurance
- Challenges. New / emerging risks, e.g. cyber, climate change
