DemoLab: Press Conference
The new Laboratory for Demographic Trends by MIB Trieste School of Management
A new tool available to public and private organizations, to set up new sustainable social and economic development guidelines by the support of demographic data.
The Laboratory on Demographic Trends "DemoLab" of MIB Trieste School of Management was presented last 5th November at Ferdinandeo Palace in Trieste.
The project is supported by Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, Allianz Spa and Generali Italia.
Speakers at the press conference included Alessia Rosolen, Councilor for work, training, education of Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, Vladimir Nanut, Dean of MIB Trieste School of Management, Ermanno Pitacco, Director of DemoLab, Valentina Sestan, Manager of Allianz Spa and Pierluigi Bruno, Head of Risk Structure Demographics of Generali Italia.
DemoLab will examine the demographic dynamics of greater impact and greater relevance, which play a central role in social, economic and political development: demographic change, aging, fertility, population health, migratory flows and labor redistribution.
"The aims of the Laboratory are very ambitious," explains Prof. Pitacco, director of DemoLab "we will act on an enormous amount of data, projecting the results from the international to the Italian level down to the regional level. We will analyze at the same time very different biometric data: not only the mortality rate but also fertility, birth rate, immigration and emigration, which has a decisive influence on the demographic pyramid and population rejuvenation."
The Laboratory will then deepen the "health" dimension, defined as the degree of self-sufficiency of older people, an aspect that has great implications for interventions in the health and care sector.
The first research report of MIB Trieste's DemoLab focused on LONGEVITY TRENDS at a national level. "There was a noticeable change in trend, although less significant than in other Western countries," explained Pitacco. "The expected increase in life has in fact suffered a significant slowdown since 2015-2016 and the expectations of longer life today have stopped".
In her speech, Councilor Rosolen emphasized how the DemoLab will be a supporting structure for the interpretation of an enormous amount of data that can guide the choices of politics in a conscious manner.
The support that even the corporate world wants to give to the DemoLab activities has been confirmed by the intervention of the representatives of Allianz and Generali, who have underlined above all the concrete framework of the Laboratory.
