MIB Trieste School of Management is both venue and partner for the first public event of the Southeast Europe Observatory, which kicks off its series of open conversations with an event dedicated to the roots of liberal thought.

"Trieste – Roots of Liberal Thought" is the title of the opening gathering, scheduled for Tuesday, 10 March 2026.

MIB Trieste School of Management, co-founder and home of the South East Europe Observatory, has kicked off the Liberal Dialogues, the Observatory's first operational initiative, born from the partnership between MIB and the Fondazione Luigi Einaudi, with the support of Open Society Foundations and Generali, and under the patronage of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the City of Trieste, and the University of Trieste.

The clearest sign of the initiative's institutional standing came at the very opening: Valentina Superti, Director for the Western Balkans at the European Commission, underscored in her address the critical role of dialogue between institutions, academia and civil society in advancing the European integration of the Balkan countries.
It is no coincidence that the Observatory has chosen MIB Trieste as its operational base — a school founded in 1988 with an international outlook long oriented toward Central and Eastern Europe, and today a recognised centre of excellence in management education.

The vision was set out by Vladimir Nanut, founder and CEO of MIB Trieste: "Integrity, merit and responsibility are not abstract concepts: they are the foundations on which leadership is built, leadership capable of creating value for businesses and for society."
A direct line between management education and liberal values, and the reason why MIB is a natural partner for a project designed to engage and connect the next generation of leaders across the Balkan region.
Following Trieste, the tour will move to Ljubljana, Belgrade, Podgorica and Tirana, before returning to MIB for the Annual Forum this September.
