MIB Trieste: founding partner and home of the Southeast Europe Observatory

A new initiative to foster dialogue across the Balkans

MIB Trieste: founding partner and home of the Southeast Europe Observatory
The Southeast Europe Observatory (SEE) was officially launched at the Salone di Rappresentanza of the Prefecture of Trieste, in the presence of Prefect Giuseppe Petronzi. The initiative is born from the partnership between the Luigi Einaudi Foundation and MIB Trieste School of Management, with the support of Open Society Foundations and Generali.

The Observatory is based in Trieste, at MIB Trieste School of Management, and was established with a clear mission: to foster dialogue among the countries of Southeast Europe, strengthen the exchange between the region's leadership classes and civil societies, and contribute to accelerating the EU accession process for the Balkan countries not yet part of the Union.

For MIB, the Southeast Europe Observatory represents the natural evolution of a vocation spanning more than thirty years: supporting the growth of a region that is strategically important for the future of Europe, by investing in people and education as a driver of real change. The Trieste launch was preceded by an introductory event held in Rome at the Senate.

The role of MIB Trieste School of Management

MIB Trieste School of Management is founding partner and host of the Observatory, and contributes through a programme of educational initiatives specifically designed for young people from the Balkan countries: Summer Schools, management training programmes and direct engagement with the business community. The goal is to develop professional skills and leadership capabilities among the region's future leaders, while building concrete bridges between the new generations and the opportunities that European integration has to offer.
"MIB was founded in 1988 with the vocation of being a natural bridge between Italy and Central-Eastern Europe. Since then, we have always worked to support the managerial and institutional growth of the countries in the region. The SEE Observatory fits perfectly into this mission, creating a concrete link between education, the business world and European integration, " Vladimir Nanut, Founder and CEO of MIB Trieste School of Management.

The Liberal Dialogues programme

Among the Observatory's first initiatives, MIB Trieste School of Management will host on 10 March the opening event of the Liberal Dialogues series: a cycle of lectures and discussions with Italian and European academics and intellectuals, exploring the foundations of liberal thought and the European path of Southeast Europe.
The series will then continue in some of the region's main capitals: Ljubljana (31 March), Belgrade (14 April), Podgorica (5 May) and Tirana (19 May). In autumn 2026, the Observatory will organise a major international event in Trieste dedicated to EU enlargement and the future of the European Union.
