Course Description
The Crypto Economics course introduces students to the dynamic world of decentralized finance, blockchain technology, and digital currencies. Students in the course will learn about the new crypto economy, estimated at over $3 trillion 2025. To understand the rapid growth and change in this sector, students will analyze current cases, data, and business models.
Covering key topics like Bitcoin and macroeconomics, Ethereum’s blockchain and smart contracts, the role of crypto in global finance, and the impact of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) in digital culture, this course equips students with a comprehensive understanding of cryptoeconomics. Students will also explore decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), decentralized finance (DeFi) mechanisms, and innovative crypto-driven business models. Through case studies, readings, and multimedia resources, students will critically analyze the economic implications and disruptive potential of these technologies. With a prerequisite knowledge of macro and microeconomics, students are assessed through a presentation and a test, focusing on in-depth analysis and practical application of course concepts.

What you will learn
You will gain a solid foundation in the new decentralized economy, exploring the disruptive impact of blockchain and Web3. The course covers token-based business models, smart contracts, and the financial dynamics of digital currencies. You will also reflect on the role of leadership today, with attention to ethics and social responsibility (see ERS section).
- DAY 1 - Bitcoin and Macroeconomics – Analyze the value and costs of cryptocurrencies through case studies and curated readings.
- DAY 2 - Crypto, Ethereum and Smart Contracts – Learn how Ethereum and smart contracts are reshaping the financial landscape.
- DAY 3 - Tokenomics and DeFi – Understand innovative business models driven by token economies and the mechanisms behind decentralized finance.

He is Professor of Economics and Management at Ariel University (Israel) and of Strategy and International Marketing at the University of Agder (Norway). Former holder of the Cornell Chair and founder of the China Center at Rollins College (USA), he has taught at Harvard, Georgetown, CBS, and UIBE.
