Leadership, authoritativeness and trust: MIB Trieste for the Carabinieri

Training for 40 Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers of the Carabinieri

Training for the Carabinieri
Leadership is not about role or rank, it's about the ability to inspire, guide and influence with authoritativeness and vision. Even in a hierarchical organisation like the military, effective leadership relies on trust, adaptability, and strong interpersonal skills.
With this approach, MIB Trieste welcomed 40 Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers of the Carabinieri of Friuli Venezia Giulia for a day of training dedicated to leadership and team management.

The session, led by Vladimir Nanut, CEO of MIB, and Tim Baxter, Program Director MBA in International Business, addressed core leadership challenges faced by the Carabinieri: making quick and effective decisions, fostering trust, and coordinating teams with responsibility and clarity.
The Carabinieri were thus able to confront strategies and inspirational models that find direct application in their daily activities.

Key Topics Covered:
  • Leadership and Collective Intelligence
  • Relationship and conflict management
  • Influence and authoritativeness
  • Adaptability and proactivity in complex environments

While the military and business worlds may seem distinct, they share common leadership values. Military leadership is often associated with rank, while corporate leadership emphasizes influence, empathy, and engagement.
Yet, as Gen. Gabriele Vitagliano, Commander of the Carabinieri Legion FVG, highlighted: "Authority provides the legal framework for command, but true leadership is built on credibility and trust. Military operations are fundamentally about human relationships - leading means managing these interactions and directing them toward a common goal".

Col. Gianluca Migliozzi, Commander of the Carabinieri of Trieste, reinforced the importance of leadership in community relations: "Expectations for this training were high, in line with the reputation of MIB. The insights gained here will be shared with our Station Commanders, who interact daily with the public. Leadership is not only about internal command structures; it is also about how we engage with citizens."

At MIB Trieste, leadership development is at the heart of our mission. As Prof. Vladimir Nanut emphasized: "Our School is not just a resource for businesses, it is a platform for institutions and organisations operating in complex environments. Leadership today, even in structured hierarchies, requires emotional intelligence, inclusivity, and the ability to align teams with a shared vision."
